Map of the Game Areas

See a map showing all the key places you need to know about including hotels, stadiums and "Chelsea Central" pubs.

Air Travel To/From and Within California

The first Chelsea game will be in the "Bay Area" or northern California, while the second and third will be in the LA area, which is Southern California.  This is a considerable drive so we are suggesting you consider flying between Palo Alto and LA.

For the Palo Alto game your best options are either San Jose (SJC) or San Francisco (SFO).  While both airports are approximately a 30 minute drive without traffic, we are recommending you use the CalTrain service from either airport to downtown Palo Alto.

For Los Angeles your best bet is probably Los Angeles (LAX).

Round trips between north CA and LAX can be found for as little as $100(US) on several carriers.  We suggest as well as using the normal generic travel sites such as Orbitz, Expedia or Travelocity you also check the airlines serving the region, specifically Southwest Airlines, as better deals can sometimes only be found on the carrier's web site.

Travel to/in Palo Alto

CalTrain is the train company that operates around the Bay Area and is an excellent option for getting from the airport  to Palo Alto.  You alight at University Avenue for the Rose and Crown, hotels etc. and all is a short walk from the station.  Cabs are available should you require them.  Note that Palo Alto is southbound coming from San Francisco (SFO) airport, and northbound coming from San Jose (SJC) airport.

SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
MILLBRAE station
BART operates a shuttle train every 20 minutes between the Millbrae Intermodal Station and SFO. BART's SFO shuttle train costs $1.50 and is located on the easternmost track at the Millbrae station. All passengers must purchase a ticket before boarding.
BROADWAY
SamTrans northbound 292.
BELMONT
SamTrans northbound KX.

SAN JOSE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
SANTA CLARA station
Free VTA's Airport Flyer (Route 10) operates daily, around every 10-15 mins.

Match Day Transportation - Palo Alto

If you are already in downtown Palo Alto at the Rose and Crown pub then the stadium is a 1.2 mile stroll or a short cab ride.

Also, CalTrain are running a "Chelsea Special" - but unfortunately it won't bring back memories of the Chelsea Specials "oop norf" from the 80's in England.

Travel to/in Los Angeles

Getting around in Santa Monica.
Getting from LAX to the Travel Lodge on Pico

We know there are a number of people staying at this property so here are instructions on how to get there from LAX.  For other hotel locations I am sure the instructions are very close so check the Big Blue Bus schedules.

From bag collection at the airport go outside to the sign saying LAX Shuttle on the island outside terminal.  Take the "Parking lot C" LAX shuttle to the very last stop in the parking lot (announcement "alight here for public buses"); runs about every 15 minutes.  On driver's side of bus you will see a basic bus depot.  Cross to there and in bus stand 12 you will get the #3 bus.  The express bus is rare but get it if you can.  When you board the #3 bus ask for a transfer to the #7 bus.  Take the #3 bus for about an hour down to 4th and Santa Monica.  Get off bus and go left to Santa Monica Blvd to get #7 bus towards Century City.  Get off for 3102 Pico Blvd.  One way ticket is $1.25 (MUST HAVE CHANGE as there is no change machine).

Note that you can also get this #7 bus between Yankee Doodles and the Travel Lodge but it only runs until midnight.

Match Day Transportation - LA

We are providing bus transport for the following events in LA this summer.  At this stage only the two match days are confirmed, as below.

Tue 17th July: Chelsea v Samsung Bluewings
"Chelsea Central Pub" (Yankee Doodle's, Santa Monica) To/From Home Depot Centre

Sat 21st July: Chelsea v LA Galaxy
"Chelsea Central Pub" (Yankee Doodle's, Santa Monica) To/From Home Depot Centre

Thu 19th July: Chelsea Closed Practice (event still unconfirmed and tickets not on sale yet)
"Chelsea Central Pub" (Yankee Doodle's, Santa Monica) To/From UCLA

We are now selling tickets for the bus ride to the stadium on BOTH game days, that is Tuesday 17th v Bluewings and Saturday 21st v the Galaxy.  You can buy a bus and tailgate combo ticket for $35 or a tailgate only ticket (if you are not riding the bus) for $20.  The tailgate will be beer, water and a cold food provided by Yankee Doodles (we are not allowed to do a hot tailgate at the HDC), and unfortunately we are not able to sell a bus-only ticket.  If you have any dietary requests for the food please drop a note to Beth Wild (beth@tx-blues.com) ASAP.  To reserve your tickets please send a note to transport@ChelseaInAmerica.com with the following information:

  • Name
  • E-mail
  • Event(s) and head count *per event*

Please look for our registration table in either the Rose and Crown in Palo Alto or Yankee Doodle's in LA to pay and receive your tickets.  Please note that we will reserve tickets for those on the list in a first come first serve basis, but as we get close to departure on game days we will be selling unclaimed tickets to walk-ups so make sure you find us and get your tickets pronto!
