The Rose Bowl

Chelsea are making their second visit to the ‘historic’ Rose Bowl (2009). Seating over 92,000, the Rose Bowl is located 3 miles from Old Town Pasadena and about 10 miles from Downtown LA.  But you must factor in LA traffic when commuting.

CIA will be seated in the lower areas of Sections 23 and 24.  The CIA ticket allotment is SOLD OUT but some tickets do remain from other sources online. Beware the low-cost GA seats at the opposite end as fans will begin lining up for those 3-4 hours before the match.

Bag Policy: The stadium are following the NFL bag policy. Which means no purses, back packs, camera bags, bags, satchels, diaper bags or bags bigger than your hand. However they do allow clear bags. If you do not have one CIA should have some on hand for purchase, clear with Chelsea blue trim and a rampant lion on it so that you can sport your colors. If you bring a bag that does not meet their rules, you will be turned away at the turnstiles.

Tboyles Tavern

CIA pre-match activities will occur beginning noon on Tuesday 26th at T Boyles in Old Town Pasadena. This will include the traditional ‘Stars on a Stool’ that evening, ticket pick up and tour merchandise. It’s the CIA’s bar for the tour as T Boyles is permitting the back area for outdoor space also.

On Wednesday 27th match date, CIA will be at T Boyles until 3pm hosting visitors and for ticket pick up.

Match day tailgate:  Then we are moving to the Rose Bowl LOT H for informal tailgate from 4-7pm.   BYOB to the tailgate and we will have music, singing, a bbq for those bringing eats that need heat and ticket pick up.   At 7pm we move to the stadium for 8pm kick off.   Driving in, come in off Seco Street.  Nearest public lots to Lot H are I, J & K.

Directions

The Rose Bowl is NOT walkable from Old Town Pasadena. Other than a driving, there is some access via Uber but we can also recommend the City Bus shuttle in and out of the The Bowl.  The shuttle bus stop in Old Pasadena is 1.4 miles west of T Boyles (and there is a city bus that goes direct from the pub to the shuttle stop).  We do NOT recommend taxis.  It’s almost impossible for a cab to get into the bowl against traffic after the event.

Your reservation with the official CIA Hotel will help not only establish our organization but a portion of your reservation will help fund the Chelsea FC Legend we are bringing over from the UK.

We have done the best we could to garner this pricing. We appreciate your support!

Reserve your Room today.

It’s summer time so if you can’t find what your are looking for in the Pasadena or Downtown LA area (which could be a 1 hour drive in rush hour), try hotels off the 210 Fwy east bound in the Arcadia area near Santa Anita or west bound up toward Burbank.

rose-bowl-parkingAirport

LAX is the main airport (30 miles/1+ hours) while smaller options are Burbank (16 miles/22 minutes), Long Beach (30 miles/1 hr) and Santa Ana (50 miles/1.5 hours).  There is no effective rapid transit from airports to anywhere in Southern California.   Best option is to rent car though Uber may help you once you get closer to your destinations.   Taxi’s are few and expensive.

Transportation to the Stadium

The Rose Bowl is NOT walkable from Old Town Pasadena.  Other than a driving, there is some access via Uber but we can also recommend the City Bus shuttle in and out of The Bowl.  The shuttle bus stop in Old Pasadena is 1.4 miles west of T Boyles (there is a city bus to runs from pub to shuttle stop).
Game day, the tailgate is at Lot H.  Drive to Seco Street which should then direct you to Lots I, J or K nearest Lot H.

As the song goes “nobody walks in LA”. You will need a car rental or Uber to go around the city. Try to add another 30 to 60 minutes on top of your computer-generated travel time, even if just going 4 miles away.

Michigan Stadium

Michigan Stadium, nicknamed “The Big House”, is the football stadium for the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It is the largest stadium in the United States, the second largest stadium in the world and the 34th largest sports venue. Its official capacity is 107,601, but it has hosted crowds in excess of 115,000.  Oh, and for the record, 109,318 watched Man U play Real Madrid to set a US soccer attendance record.  Let’s beat that!

CIA will be seated in sections 33, 34 and 35 in the north end of the stadium behind the goal.  Parking lots around the stadium open at 7am on game day.

Click here for a seating map and other stadium info, but you will need to pay particular attention to the rules for taking things into the stadium, notable NO bags of any kind, not even purses!

Traffic Info: M14 in the NW edge of Ann Arbor has road closures, as does northbound I275.   Please visit the Michigan Department of transport website for up to the minute traffic and road closure information.

Bag Policy: Please note that Michigan Stadium has an extremely strict bag policy, stricter than the NFL stadiums.  We strongly advise you review the stadium policy before going as you don’t want to get stuck at the entrance arguing with a security guard over your European Man Bag 😉

For our guests with disabilities, the Stadium has information to help make your day most excellent and problem free.

The official Chelsea in America pub will be Conor O’Neill’s at 318 South Main St, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48104.

While the pub holds 300-400 people, the landlord has arranged for a beet tent in Main Street (in front of the pub) for Friday night, so there should be plenty of space to mingle and absorb the atmosphere.

All your favorite Chelsea tipples will be available aplenty including Stella, Guiness, Strongbow and Magners, Smithwicks and more.  There will be a special event menu (so don’t memorize the one of their website), including a hearty breakfast to get you going in the morning if you don’t fancy the hotel fare.

Star on a Stool

As is traditional at CIA summer tour events, we have arranged for two Chelsea legends, well, three if you include Neil “Spy” Barnett, to join us and spend time mingling with and getting to know the supporters.  Part of this includes an event on Friday evening we like to call “Star on a Stool” where the three of them will tell jokes, anecdotes and answer questions.  Due to other events in Ann Arbor Friday evening, the landlord has asked us to start the Star on a Stool event at 6:30pm, so if you plan on joining us Friday evening, we encourage you to get there early to ensure you have a good seat.  You do *not* want to miss this.

More information about the pub and related events will be posted soon…

To help you with all aspects of travel while in Ann Arbor we have compiled all the information about travel to/from/around Ann Arbor in a handy PDF for you to print off and keep handy.

You can’t come all the way to Michigan and not visit Chelsea, only 15 miles away, so find somebody with a car or grab an Uber!

Detroit

In spite of what you may have heard, Detroit is a fun place to visit with tons of history and culture.

As with previous summer tours, tickets will not be mailed ahead of time.  Instead you will need to come to the Chelsea Pub (Connor O’Neill’s) to collect them during the following times:

       Friday 29th:        Noon to 6:30pm
Saturday 30th:   9:am to 2pm

You will need to bring with you a copy of your receipt (PayPal receipt or a copy of the e-mail confirmation you received) and a form of government issued ID.  Look for the ticket table near the CIA merchandise, or ask anybody in the pub, they will know where we are.
