The Bayou City Blues are working closely with ESPN, World Cup, Olympic, and Dynamo broadcaster, Glenn Davis to begin the “Kick Cancer” Program with Texas Children’s Hospital. We will be working together to raise money through various charitable events and soccer camps, with all proceeds going towards our charity. Cancer in children is something we hold dear to our hearts, and know most people do as well. We are fortunate that our relationship with Glenn Davis in Houston will help carry the word through the soccer community, and hopefully extend itself into other cities and countries.
Our first event will be held on October 28th during the Man Utd v Chelsea match. We will be hosting Dynamo players, patients from the hospital and their families, and other distinguished guests from within Houston. Our objective on this day is to invite the kids, and give them a true Chelsea FC experience by watching the match with us at our home pub, The Brewery Tap, in downtown Houston. We will be selling BBQ plates, holding some raffles, and possibly giving away tickets to a local Houston Dynamo match.
The Bayou City Blues will donate their time during this day, and some of us will also donate certain items to the raffle, include a personal donation of a signed kit with several Chelsea players names on it, including the great Bobby Tambling!! All proceeds we collect during this event, and its auctions, will go directly to the “Kick Cancer” program.
The Bayou City Blues believe that their chapter is more than meeting on the weekends to watch our beloved Chelsea play and drinking pints. They want to give back to our community, and those in need. Through charitable events, and volunteering their time to our city, they believe that not only will their chapter grow, but awareness for all in need will grow as well. It is important to them that charities like “Kick Cancer” succeed, and that every child is given the chance to not only share our love for Chelsea FC, but for them to find hope in every way possible!
The calendar of events for the 28th of October is not quite done yet, but as the date nears, we will keep you posted on what we have planned. Matt Garcia, Rodrigo De Luna and Jesus Martinez will continue to work with Glenn Davis and Texas Children’s Hospital to extend our partnership beyond more than one event! Please contact Jesus Martinez for more information and watch this post for updates.
